Carlow Vocational School has a long tradition of involvement in sports and sporting activities. Our students have received many highly acclaimed awards in various sports over the years. All students are encouraged to participate in some sporting activity on offer within the school in order to promote fitness, team spirit and a healthy competitiveness. Physical Education classes (P.E.) are offered to all Junior Cycle classes.
Gaelic Football
The school has a reputation for its prowess on the football field, having won both senior and junior inter – county and inter – school championships in the past. Teams take part in competition from under 14 level up to senior level.Training takes place both on our own school football pitch together with those outside of the school environs and pupils enjoy official GAA coaching through the school.
Hurling
Hurling is an important game in the school where teams enter competition on both inter – county and inter – school level.

Soccer
Soccer has always been an important part of school sports with teams taking part in all local and regional competitions.
Athletics
This activity proves popular on an individual level where students are trained and take part in various interschool and national competitions annually.
Golf
There is a developing interest in golf in the
school with an increasing number of students
participating in the various golf lessons and
golfing activities on offer both locally and in
nearby clubs.
Karate
Many students enjoy the Karate club within the school , many members of which have won awards in international competition.
Other sports on offer include:
Basketball,Swimming, Snooker, Handball and Rugby.
